Welcome to the international (English-speaking) blog of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki. Our blog invites views on research, education, student life, and other societal themes connected to our computer science fields. The intention is to build a forum as an open window for readers from inside and outside computer science. If you have any good ideas or articles to share on this blog, please feel free to contact us: cs-blog [ät] cs.helsinki.fi.
CS Christmas party
At the end of November 2012, the department of computer science threw its Christmas party in "Berghyddan", an old building in the area where Helsinki was originally founded.
The celebrations started with mulled wine, Christmas carols, and a delicious Mediterranean buffet.
For our entertainment, the organizers made a quiz about recognizing famous computer scientist. If you were not there, the pictures will be available in the Linkki classroom - how many do you recongnize? To all the kind staff members, Santa Klara paid a visit and had a small present in her bag.
Our porridge talker and desert talker of the evening - Giulio and Aaron
Later in the evening we were challenged to build a frame out of straws and paper clips, as high as possible, to support a "julebokk" (a Christmas goat), and the owner of the restaurant taught us the Greek dance to Zorbas music.
It was a very enjoyable and entertaining evening! Thanks a lot to the department and the organizers!
