CS Department PC Policy
Standard PC Policy
- PC policy defines what kind of PC computing devices are provided by the Department of Computer Science

PC policy applies to
- all full time teachers, researchers and staff at the Department of Computer Science and HIIT
- all research projects disregarding how they are funded

the policy is about PCs, not about
- other computing facilities, e.g. servers
- phones or other devices
- four possible choices...
laptop...
laptop + screen...
desktop...
...or both.
Some restrictions

you can make a choice of PCs only on certain occasions
- when an externally funded project starts or ends
- when you have used your current desktop and/or laptop at least 6 months
- when your hardware must be upgraded or replaced for technical reason

the equipment will not necessarily be new
- typical hardware lifetime is 3-4 years
Supported operating systems
- Windows 7

Cubbli (Common Ubuntu based Linux)
- currently based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with additions
- dual boot preferably on laptops only
- Windows Server 2008 R2 available for Linux users

Mac OS X Lion
- Macs supported by HIIT
- currently only very limited support by CS department
