Uusin Linux-järjestelmäpäivitys rikkoo fuksiläppäriin käsin esiasennetun näyttöajurin. Oireena boottigrafiikka näkyy, mutta kone kaatuu ennen sisäänkirjautumisruutuun pääsyä. Jos sinulla on tämä ongelma, voit tuoda koneen ylläpidolle korjattavaksi.

Toisin kuin näitä asennettaessa, fuksiläppärin näytönohjain on onneksi tätä nykyä Ubuntun virallisen fglrx-päivityspaketin tukema. Jos et ole vielä päivittänyt järjestelmääsi, voit päivittää sen hallitusti käyttämään tätä seuraavasti:

1. Suorita normaali päivitys. Älä sammuta konetta vielä lopuksi.
2. Poista rikkinäinen näyttöajuriasennus: sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh --force
3. Asenna virallinen ajuripaketti: sudo apt-get -y install fglrx.*updates

Ongelmien tapauksessa tuo kone ylläpidon korjattavaksi.

Jos sovelsit jo aiempaa korjausohjetta epävirallisella deb-paketilla, voit harkita sen vaihtamista fglrx-updates -paketin ajuriin, mutta tämä ei liene välttämättä tarpeen. Voit myös osatessasi soveltaa ohjetta Recovery-tilassa valmiiksi rikkinäisen läppärin korjaamiseen.

The latest Linux system upgrades break the manually preinstalled display driver. The computer will display the boot splash screen but will crash before the login screen. If you are having this problem, you can bring your computer up to the sysadmins for fixing.

Unlike originally, the laptop's GPU is now happily supported by the updated official Ubuntu fglrx driver package. If you have not yet upgraded your system, follow these instructions for an orderly upgrade:

1. Run the normal upgrade process. Do not turn off the laptop or reboot.
2. Remove the broken driver installation: sudo /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh --force
3. Install the official driver package: sudo apt-get -y install fglrx.*updates

In case of problems, bring the laptop to the sysadmins for repair.

If you already applied the earlier instructions to install an unofficial fglrx driver deb package, you can consider changing to the official fglrx-updates, but this is probably not actually necessary. You may also apply the instructions above to fix an already broken installation in Recovery mode, though it gets a bit more involved.

Kuten aikaisempina vuosina, tietojenkäsittelytieteen laitos lainaa uusille (syksyllä 2013 aloittaneille) kandidaatin tai maisterin tutkintoa suorittaville tietojenkäsittelytieteen koulutusohjelman opiskelijoille kevyitä kannettavia tietokoneita ja taulutietokoneita. Lainauksen edellytyksenä on aktiivinen tietojenkäsittelytieteen opiskelu jo syksyn 2013 ensimmäisellä periodilla ja erityisesti hyväksytty eHOPS-opintosuunnitelma. Taulutietokone on Android-tabletti Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 WiFi, joka on kevyt yhteen käteen sopiva 8-tuumainen laite, joka soveltuu hyvin
mm. selailuun, sähköisten aineistojen lukemiseen ja yhteydenpitoon. Varsinaiseen ohjelmointityöhön siitä ei ole, joskin Androidille on olemassa useitakin pääte-emulaatoreita, joilla voi ottaa yhteyttä laitoksen palvelimiin. As on previous years, the Department of Computer Science is lending laptop computers and tablet computers to new students (starting their studies in the autumn of 2013) studying in the educational programme of Computer Science for the BSc or for the MSc degree. Lending is subject to active computer science studies, already in the first autumn period in 2013, and in particular, an accepted personal study plan "(e)HOPS". If the studies progress, the loan period will continue until the completion of the MSc degree. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E145 is a small 11.6 inch laptop which has sufficient CPU power, memory, and disk for tasks such as program development or scientific text processing using the LaTeX system. The tablet is Android based Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 WiFi which is a light weight easy to hold 8 inch device that is well suited for example for web surfing, reading electronic materials, and communication. It is not suited for actual programming work, even though there exist several terminal emulators for Android which can be used to login to the servers of the department. The device does not have a SIM card slot, so only WiFi networks can be used. Further information can be found on page
