General
In the seminar, the focus in the seminar is in novel issues in the software architecture research and practic, such as software development tools or methods for example for rapid continuous development, continuous experimentation, etc. new software development means. In particular, the topic and papers that have appeared in the recently conferences or journals can be taken as a starting point. For example, see WICSA 2016 programme as a good sources for topics. Potential topics will be discussed further in the first session.
The seminar work can be based on literature, but searching for possibilities of investigating and reporting experiences or practices from real software companies or other development organisations are highly encouraged.
Completing the course
The seminar will be organised close to the format of a scientific software engineering conference with peer-review practice. The course uses the conference acronym SASMOOTA 2017.
Each participant writes a scientific paper (at least in the form and style) and submits it to the "conference" of the course. The paper will be peer-reviews by course staff and other seminar participants. In addition, everyone presents the paper as in a conference, if the paper is accepted.
The course will use EasyChair conference management system (conference address: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sasmoota2017 ) in which paper, reviews and revised paper will be returned. Details on accessing and using the system will be given in the beginning of the course.
The paper will be formatted using IEEE conference template, which can be found from http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. A suitable length of a seminar paper in this format is 6-10 pages.
Read and use the Scientific Writing Guide of ESE research group
Moodle
The course uses Moodle (SASMOOTA2017) for basic organisation, registration and messaging. In addition, Moodle is used for the optional feedback and group discussions.
Optional Feedback Sessions
The feedback sessions are optional. Optional feedback is specifically targeted for your ideas, drafts, thinking and writing process and is based on your freeform memo document. Instructions are in Moodle (SASMOOTA2017). If you want to participate in feedback sessions, you need to share some material before the session.
Grading
The grade for the seminar is given based on the written paper (50%), reviews given to other students and activity in the course (20%) and presentation (30%).
