Abstract of the talk

Google's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is responsible for running the company's services with high quality standards: fast, reliably and cheap (pick all three). These services include Google Maps, Web Search, GMail, YouTube, Google+ and many others. This talk explains the purpose and challenges that SRE faces.

Biography of Heikki Orsila, Site Reliability Engineer

Heikki works as a site reliability engineer at Google. In this role, he focuses on keeping Google Maps, Street View and related services running without interruptions, increasing the reliability of services and optimizing the use of resources. He has been at Google since 2011. Heikki has a PhD in Department of Computer Systems from Tampere University of Technology (TUT). His research interests include automatic parallelization in distributed computing, computer systems and automated system-on-chip design tools. He earned a Master's degree in 2004, also from TUT, where he graduated with honors.
