Abstract

A database management system is essential for the business in any organizations. It stores data of persons, products, actitivies and any kinds of information that the organization would like to keep track of. It also offers functionality to retrieve such information based on needs. How to properly organize the data stored in a database, which is known as database design, is important because it directly affects the maintanance and performance of the database. In this lecture, I would introduce one of the most popular approaches, the Entity-Relationship (ER) approach, for designing a good database schema in relational database systems.
