Abstract:

Security has played a key role in cellular systems since GSM. Even more emphasis has been devoted to security in the subsequent generations, 3G and LTE. One of the most important security features is user authentication. The lecture covers evolution of user authentication mechanisms from GSM to 3G and further to LTE. In addition to presenting details of these mechanisms, the rationale behind various design decisions is also explained.
