Heikki Mannila takes office as President of the Academy of Finland

The Finnish government appointed Professor Heikki Mannila President of the Finnish Academy on 15 December 2012.

 

Heikki Mannila defended his thesis on computer science at the University of Helsinki in 1985. He was a professor at the Department of Computer Science to the end of the 90s, and participated in the work at the department even after that, especially during 2000-2004 and in 2009, when he was director and research director at HIIT, the joint research institute of the University of Helsinki and Aalto University. Heikki comes to the Academy from a position of Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Aalto University.

The post of President is filled for the period 1 March 2012-28 February 2017.
