Introducing docenture applicant: Pasi Sarolahti

Pasi Sarolahti took his Master’s degree at the Helsinki University Department of Computer Sciencein 2001, and his doctoral degree at the same department in 2007. His dissertation examined TCP telecommunications in mobile devices.

Sarolahti worked at the Nokia Research Center 2002-2010 designing and implementing telecommunications architectures and protocols for Nokia devices, as well as heading the Future Internet research group that focused on designing Internet communication architectures and Internet transport-layer protocol development, and improving the energy-efficiency of communications.

Sarolahti has participated in IETF standardizing since 2002, and has been the chair of the DCCP and TCPM  task forces since 2009. Further, he is a member of the IETF Transport steering committee that supervises IETF work and makes related recommendations. He has worked as a visiting researcher at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, USA, in 2004, working with Dr Sally Floyd on improving the performance of TCP telecommunications, and in 2009-2010, working with Professor Scott Shenker on Internet architectures and content-based solutions.  He has also been a member of numerous programme committees for scientific conferences on these issues.

Since September 2010, Sarolahti has worked in the Department of Communications and Networking at Aalto University, studying the development of content-based Internet architectures, among other things, within the EU-funded 7th framework programme PURSUIT. In addition, he works with extensive Internet measurement in the 7th framework LEONE project. At Aalto University, he teaches courses on the design and implementation solutions for Internet protocols in applications and operating systems.
