Helsinki up 9 slots in QS university ranking

The University of Helsinki improved its position by a whole nine slots in the annual QS ranking. This ranking is the best we have ever reached. The University of Helsinki is now 69th. This time, over 800 universities around the world were reviewed.

  - Based on this new university ranking, the research and teaching at Helsinki University still holds a high standard internationally. However, it is especially gladdening that the assessment employers have made of the university has improved particularly well, says Head of International Affairs Markus Laitinen.

The University of Helsinki gained an especially good ranking in humanistic sciences (46th) and medicine (47th). The aim of the University of Helsinki of becoming one of the 50 best research universities in the world is now nearer to fruition than ever.

American universities continue to top the ranking lists, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in the lead. Out of the British universities, Cambridge came third. The University of Copenhagen was the best among Scandinavian universities (45th) and Lund (67th) placed right before Helsinki.

The QS ranking is made annually. This London-based network creates ranking lists of the best universities in the world, both with respect to the university as a whole and specific disciplines.
