Data Science study profile launched

The Department of Computer Science launches a new MSc study profile on Data Science. This profile answers the demand for professionals for “big data”, both domestically and internationally. The profile is available immediately as the academic year 2014-15 starts next week.

Data scientists help organizations make sense of their data. As data collection grows in speed, size and complexity, new challenges emerge in dealing with this so called "big data". These challenges range from efficient algorithms for data analytics to the design of large, distributed systems to manage the data.

The Data Science study profile is an MSc level programme that brings together elements from different subfields of computer science, from machine learning to distributed systems, to train a new generation of data scientists for the industry, academia, and administration. The language of education is English.

Data Science studies span courses across different specialization areas of the department. It is organized together by the Algorithms, Data Analytics and Machine Learning subprogramme and the Networking and Services subprogramme, and builds on the department's strong research tradition in these topics.
