Tax cards 2015

Old employees: No need to submit your tax card to the employer if your tax information has not changed

The tax authorities directly provide the University of Helsinki with the tax information of all who receive a salary, fee or grant from the University between 1 September 2014 and 1 February 2015 or who have a valid employment contract or grant on 1 February 2015. These employees need not submit their tax card to the employer. The employer automatically uses the information indicated on the employee’s tax card and selects alternative A as the method of taxation.

The basic tax card for the gross income from your main employment features two alternative methods of withholding tax: alternative A sets a separate income ceiling for each pay period, whereas alternative B sets a single income ceiling for the entire year. Each employee can select which alternative to use, i.e., whether the employer is to withhold tax based on an income ceiling for each pay period or for the entire year. You cannot change this selection during the course of the year even if you change employers.

If you wish to select the alternative based on an annual income ceiling (select B on the tax card) or to use a higher tax rate (the annual income ceiling cannot be raised) than that indicated on the tax card, you must submit your revised tax card to Personnel Services as soon as possible. For instructions for submitting tax cards, see Submission of tax cards below.

You can also ask the tax authorities to submit your new revised tax card directly to Personnel Services if you wish to change the information on the tax card sent to your home address.

New employees: Submit your tax card to the employer
