New course on period II: introduction to bioinformatics through programming projects

Algorithmic bioinformatics subprogramme launches a new course: Modelling and Analysis in Bioinformatics. The aim of the course is to give an introduction to bioinformatics, focusing on modelling and analysis of bioinformatics problems using e.g. probabilistic reasoning. The course consists of lectures, study groups, guest lectures, and and small programming projects. The projects are initiated in weekly exercise sessions using pair programming, but they will be finished independently. The course will familiarize to Python and its biopython extension. Prior knowledge of Python is not necessarily required, if one can program fluently using some other language; some template examples will be given to start with. The course gives a good basis for other courses in the subprogramme. Lecturers of the course are Leena Salmela, Antti Honkela, and Veli Mäkinen.
