Changes to occupational health examinations

At the beginning of 2016, the University of Helsinki introduced a system of unit-specific health examinations to be carried out simultaneously with workplace inspections. The new system replaces the voluntary screenings targeted at specific age groups. In conjunction with workplace inspections, the occupational health provider will send an invitation to an electronic health survey, which should be completed personally by all employees. The occupational health provider will save the survey responses in each employee’s patient information records, and an occupational nurse will review them. If necessary, the occupational health provider will invite the employee to a health examination.

Statutory health examinations at regular intervals will continue as before. Supervisors must refer employees included in the system of regular examinations to the occupational health provider during the year for which the examination is scheduled. After the examination, employees must submit the statement obtained from the occupational health provider to their supervisor.

Employees can always contact their occupational health nurse and make an appointment for an occupational health examination at any time if they feel the need for
