Service medals for 59 UH academics

On 1 February, 2016, the Rector of the University of Helsinki, Jukka Kola, awarded 59 University of Helsinki staffers with a medal as recognition for their long careers in the service of academia.

From the department, Professor Juha Puustjärvi, Amanuensis Teija Kujala, and Planning Officer Reijo Siven received the medal. Congratulations on this fine achievement!

The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and UNIFI ry (Universities Finland) established the academic service medal in 2012. Hannu Hillo, heraldic artist, designed the medal. In addition to a laurel wreath, the medal displays something that you can see as a keyhole to illustrate inquisitiveness or a lighthouse to illustrate the civilising light of academia. The medal has a red ribbon.

This golden academic service-year medal can be awarded to people who have worked at least 30 years in the service of the academic community. The medal and its accompanying diploma is granted by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies on application by the employer.
