Open on-line course "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" at Stanford University, autumn 2011 

In the Fall 2011, Stanford University offers a free on-line course "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence". The course is taken by watching lectures, doing homework exercises, and completing two course exams on-line.

The course begins on October 10, 2011, and goes on for ten weeks. There will be a total of about 20 lectures and about 8 sets of exercises. A registration before the course begins is required.

Students will get a statement of accomplishment and be ranked within the on-line class. A solid understanding of probability and linear algebra is required as a prerequisite.

The CS Department is planning to grant credits to students who succesfully complete the Stanford on-line course using the so called "advanced track". The number of credits will be 4-6 cu depending on how extensive and laborious the course turns out to be.

The Stanford course can also replace the intermediate level course Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (Johdatus tekoälyyn; 4 cu) that is mandatory in the Bachelor of Science degree at the department, and taught in Finnish only.

Students completing both course can obtain 1-3 cu from the Stanford course, i.e., a total of 5-7 cu from the two courses.
