The last ceremony of 2011 for handing out degree diplomas was held in the university assembly hall on 16 December 2011. It seemed an appropriate moment to analyse the degree statistics of the department.
During year 2011, a total of 134 BSc degrees were completed at the department. The number of degrees even increased a little since the previous year (126 BSc degrees), though the intake of undergraduates was reduced. Well done, students and instructors!
There were 66 Master’s degrees completed, a significant increase from the previous year (55 MSc degrees). Six of these were completed in the international programmes (MBI and CBU). Outstanding, students and instructors!
However, only three doctoral degrees were completed, less than in previous years (seven PhD degrees in 2010). As a mitigating circumstance, we could consider that Marko Ikonen’s dissertation on 12 December was not included in the degree statistics, and that the number of doctoral degrees varies a great deal; the prediction for 2012 promises multiple numbers and a new record.
