Abstract
The purpose of this talk is to teach the first year undergraduates about the basic knowledge for XML data model. I will introduce the motivation and applications of XML data, compare the XML model with the relational data model, and introduce the stream-oriented and tree-traversal methods for programming with XML data.
Bio
Jiaheng Lu is a professor in Computer Science at the Renmin University of China. He received Ph.D. degree from National University of Singapore. He did two year Postdoc research in the University of California, Irvine, U.S. He was exceptionally promoted to a full professor on account of the outstanding research and teaching performance (2012). His research interests span many aspects of data management and data analytics. His current research focuses on developing a new search engine (called Panda Search, http://pandasearch.ruc.edu.cn) for academic search, querying big graph data and big data analytics platform optimization.
