Beddit Ltd is a startup developing sleep analysis products and services. Much of the core data analysis technology for sleep analysis was developed in Joonas Paalasmaa's PhD thesis at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki, in the Discovery Research Group of Prof. Hannu Toivonen,.

Today and tomorrow, Beddit is present in the major startup conference Slush, and for a good reason:

Just recently the company secured a deal with US retailer Bed, Bath and Beyond, placing the device in over 1500 stores all over the US in time for the Christmas rush. “It’s a good start, but we are looking to expand globally,” CTO Joonas Paalasmaa reflects. “This month Beddit will be available in Germany, Great Britain and France, and new countries are added every month.”

[...Beddit has] managed to secure over €60 000 in pre-orders of their product through Indiegogo – in just one week. The only other Finnish crowdfunding that has ever reached similar levels is the movie Iron Sky. Eventually, €370 000 were collected through Indiegogo during a period of two months.

In October 2014, The Federation of Finnish Enterprises reported that "Beddit has hit a gold mine" with "100-fold increase in sales".

Joonas defended his doctoral dissertation in computer science on 7 February 2014 while the first Beddit products were already in the market. The PhD work was carried out while Joonas was CTO of Beddit, in a smooth and successful combination of research and startup business.
