Abstract:

In the last 15 years, computational linguistics and, more generally, artificial intelligence, has given more attention to emotions and creativity. New topics such as “affective computing”, “sentiment analysis”, or “opinion mining” are more and more present in many important AI conferences. In particular, computational humor is one of the most recent and challenging research areas. The automated generation of textual messages and speech acts aimed to induce mirth and amusement has interesting possible applications in advertising, entertainment, and e-learning.

In this presentation I will give a survey over some aspects of my past experience in some of the areas mentioned above. More specifically, I will emphasize some contact points between humor and creativity and discuss ideas and resources to employ automated discovery in machine humor generation.

Dr Valitutti obtained his PhD in 2009 in the University of Trento, Italy, with a dissertation titled "Computational production of affect-based verbal humorous expressions".
