Visit a few general news sites or homepages of popular science journals. Search the site with keywords 'artificial intelligence' or examine their archives for recent news articles related to artificial intelligence research or applications. You may want to skip the articles about the movie Artificial Intelligence (2001) unless they discuss something substantial on the topic, instead of the movie.
Write a short review (2-3 pages, nicely organized and formatted) of the AI topics appearing in the articles you find. Discuss also the point of view and the issues that were raised in the articles.
Finally, summarize your own thoughts on your findings: what kind of topics did you expect? were you surprised by your findings? do some of the articles or topics make you concerned? do you find the topics relevant or significant, interesting or funny? etc.
Examples of news sites: CNN, BBC, New York Times, USA Today, Aljazeera, Dagens Nyheter (in Swedish), Helsingin Sanomat, and Ylen uutiset (in Finnish).
Examples of popular science journals: Science, Nature, Scientific American, National Geographic, Forskning och Framsteg (in Swedish), and Tiede (in Finnish).
You are welcome to use any other journals or news sites you find appropriate. If you use Finnish or other national sources, you are naturally allowed to use the language of the source when searching the site, e.g., use 'tekoäly' as a keyword in 'Tiede' magazine. If you prefer, instead of doing an online study you can use library and browse journals there. Remember to cite your information sources, i.e., mention the journals/news sites, the titles of the articles, and preferably also the names of the authors. And if you also give the URLs to the articles we will link them from the course website.
