Three Concepts: Probability | Projects
Your task is to submit four entries in the Netflix Competition (and possibly WIN A MILLION DOLLARS!). Recall that the work is to be done in teams of size four or less. Starting on March 26 (see the schedule on the main page), your task is to submit one entry each week to the Netflix server in time so that you can forward your team's result to Teemu by the deadline on that day. Our local scoreboard will then be reviewed the following Thursday, when we will also discuss potential problems you are facing, etc. If you want to discuss something, that can be done either in public together with the other teams, or later with Teemu and me if you do not want to reveal your best tricks to the other teams.
After the final round (April 16), your team should compile a report of your work: what approaches did you try, what did not work, what did, and why. Preferred format for the report is HTML (PDF is also OK). It is advisable to maintain this report continuously as the competition progresses. The completed reports must be presented on April 19th (each team is responsible for presenting their report).
The results will be evaluated based on the Netflix score obtained, scientific quality of the methodologies used in the competition, diligence and creativity showed during the progress (constant improvement based on new innovations each week is appreciated), and the quality of the final report.
