What is this project all about?

TAOJAVA comes from Teaching Applets On JAVA. TAOJAVA is a system under development whose purpose is to offer an easy to use learning environment on the Internet. In this project the subject of the course happens to be Java programming. TAOJAVA is not a standalone learning environment, however, but instead requires the teachers to be present guiding and helping the learners via e-mail and other electronic communication channels, newsgroups and chatlines for example. As there should be lots of communication and tutoring between the learners and the teachers, TAOJAVA is at its best when the groups involved are relatively small.

About this implementation

TAOJAVA is a project made as a part of a Computer-Aided Learning course held at the University of Helsinki, Finland. There is a group of five people acting as the teachers in Helsinki and the learners are located at the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. The subject of the course is Java programming and the goal is to get the learners to be able to make some applets for WWW usage.
