Toshiba laptop problems with 2.4.9

Hello,
I have a toshiba laptop model Satellite S1640.
I installed slackware 8 with native kernel 2.4.5 on it and I upgraded
to 2.4.9.
I just started having problems experiencing random lockups..
I investigated a few and i saw that keeping the laptopt idle for a
while caused it to hangup. No oops, nothing, only pure hangup,
in any situation.
So I traced the kernel boot and I noticed the problem was in the
PCMCIA sockets driver.. (which differs for a few lines from 2.4.5)
I tried to brutally copy linux-2.4.5/drivers/pcmcia/yenta.c in the
2.4.9 kernel tree and the problem solved :)
The other problem is the APM driver: by inserting the apm.o
the laptopt hangs up.
I don't know why of this because the 2.4.5 driver works
perfectly.
Attached are some informations about my laptopt.
