OK, so at least the system switches off.

Any reason why this is not enabled? There's no much use for APM without
it.

Hmm, that's a clue, it's not a 12XL125. Could you try this patch to see
if it works?

Could you also tell what the kernel thinks about your laptop? It should
print things like "BIOS Vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD".
