Into the kernel. I also forgot to mention that the pcmcia card was not
present at the time.

A lot of things appear to happen once the fb driver comes up. From the
messages displayed the kernel seems to have gone through a fair chunk of
its init. (although that could be it goiing through it at such a fast
pace after the fb comes up that it just seems that way :)
