[1.] Tyan TIGER MPX won't boot 2.5.64 (2.4.20 runs fine)

[2.] I have a new Tyan TIGER MPX motherboard with two AMD Athlon MP
2200+ CPUs. Linux 2.4.20 runs fine (configured SMP). However, 2.5.64
will not boot. When I try, the machine freezes up with the following
displayed on the screen (transcribed by hand onto another machine):

Intel machine check architecture supported.
Intel machine check reporting enabled on CPU#0.
Machine check exception polling timer started.
Enabling fast FPU save and restore... done.
Enabling unmasked SIMD FPU exception support... done.

[X.] Other notes, patches, fixes, workarounds:

The configuration is largely the same as I'm using for 2.4.20
(imported via "make oldconfig") except no modules at all.

I note that processor 0 is reported as "AMD Athlon(tm) MP 2200+",
while the second is just "AMD Athlon(tm) Processor". Does that mean
the second one is *not* MP? I.e. did the dealer sell me the wrong
thing?
