[1.] kernel 2.4.21-rc5 unpredictably hangs

[2.] During normal operations the kernel unpredictably hangs. I could
not find a particular cause to this, however it seems more likely to
happen when there are some CPU time consuming applications running, such
as gcc, however this happens in other conditions as well. kernel 2.4.20
works fine.
