In drivers/char/sysrq.c (2.4 and 2.5) we have :

if ((key >= '0') & (key <= '9')) {
retval = key - '0';
} else if ((key >= 'a') & (key <= 'z')) {

Shouldn't the "&" be (pedantically) "&&" ?
