[2.4.21] problem with USB mass storage device (?)

Hello everyone!

I'm experiencing a problem with 2.4.21 kernel, accessing an USB mass
storage device (a "pen drive") on which I have the root filesystem on it.

Here is the problem, as dmesg says:

It looks like it looses the connection with the USB device, following a
bunch of I/O errors, and finally get the connection to it, with a different
address.

Note: I have two USB controllers, an embedded one and an external one (both
VIA-based).
