2.1.68 module problems

I haven't been able to get 2.1.68 to boot if any modules are present in
/lib/modules/, as it hangs before entering run level 3. The process list
shows modprobe is active, so it seems to be a problem there.

I'm currently using modutils 2.1.34, and tried to upgrade to 2.1.55, but
it doesn't compile with the 2.1.68 headers. After making some changes to
the headers and kerneld.c I got the package to compile, but it still
hangs at boot time.

Anyone else have success with modules in 2.1.68?
