Thanks. I don't mean to be ungrateful, but I'm not running
"make menuconfig": I'm running "make config". Moreover, because I have
to run the old-style config due to the presence of a Maui soundcard, I
believe I have to use "Config.std" as "Config.in" in the
linux/drivers/sound directory. I attempted a quick fix by restoring
the old "config" target from the 2.1.66 sound driver Makefile, but too
many other changes have occurred... The upshot of it all is that
CONFIG_AUDIO doesn't get defined, so the braindamage compounds rapidly
from there. Sigh...
