I have a Cyrix 6x86 P166+ based system. When I compile I usually tell it
I have a pentium. When I compile a 'stock' 2.1.6X kernel and try to boot
it, it dies during the boot process saying that write protect does not
work in protected mode and that I should compile for a 386. My system
works fine with 2.0.32, and write protect is reported as working with
those kernels. FWIW, applying the Cyrix patch written by Mike Jagdis
corrects this problem and allows it to boot w/o problem. Last night I
tried applying what has been called the 'small cyrix' patch to 2.1.69, but
it failed to apply, so I don't know if that fixes the problem or not.
Just thought yall would like to know. Thanks,
Jim
PS Does anyone have a version of Mike Jagdis'es patch which will apply to
2.1.69?
