It will happen consistently when copying or writing certain
files. With your patch, I now get the following messages for each
file:
Dec 2 12:10:32 matrix unix: nfs_server: bad getargs
Dec 2 12:10:32 matrix unix: nfs_server: bad getargs
Dec 2 12:10:32 slug.ajlc.waterloo.on.ca slug kernel: RPC: garbage, retrying 25990
Dec 2 12:10:32 matrix unix: nfs_server: bad getargs
Dec 2 12:10:32 slug.ajlc.waterloo.on.ca slug kernel: RPC: garbage, retrying 25990
Dec 2 12:10:32 slug.ajlc.waterloo.on.ca slug kernel: RPC: garbage, exit EIO
I'll try and figure out some kind of pattern for the files it affects.

It seems to work fine. I back up the Linux machine from the Unixware
machine without any errors. The only curious thing is ls gives me this:
drwxr-xr-x 22 root root 4294967295 Oct 6 18:41 .
for all directories.
