ISSUE: lp0/lp1 incompatibility

This is a strange but very bothersome problem.

In 2.0.x, my printer (hooked up to the first parallel port) is
/dev/lp1. In 2.1.x (2.1.65, to be specific), it is /dev/lp0. This
means that I must edit my printcap every time I boot up with a
different kernel version.

Suggestions on how to fix this?

John
