2.1.70: stange NFS modes

I've been running 2.1.70 on my own machine for "up 15:25h" now, and
sometimes when I open new files over NFS they get really stange modes:

$ ll iostat.pl 
-r-srwSr-t   1 miquels  staff         280 Dec  4 13:35 iostat.pl*

$ umask
002

Chmod works as usual:

$ chmod 644 iostat.pl 
$ ll iostat.pl 
-rw-r--r--   1 miquels  staff         280 Dec  4 13:35 iostat.pl

The NFS server is Universal NFS Server 2.2beta26 on a 2.0.32 box, and
is mounted using autofs.

Just wanted to let the NFS guru(s) know ..
