various 2.1.7x problems

1. Sound modules: /dev/dsp: No such device or address (running vplay)
configure sound no longer asks for irq etc., but I put all of that stuff
in my
modules.conf file.
2. On startup: SIOADDRT: invalid argument
3. On shutdown: hangs at 'Restarting System'
4. /binutils...15/libiberty/strsignal.c:246 'NSIG' undeclared here (not
in a function)
5. Mount-2.7g: fstab.c won't compile (more sig stuff)
Compiles work with 2.0.32 headers.
I've noticed others mention that bash and init won't compile. Is this
situation temporary? Waiting for libc-5.4.xx, or do we have to move to
glibc?

BTW, Changes in 2.0.32 says to use route add -net 127.0.0.0
ppp.txt says use route add -net 127.0.0.1
It seems like alan gave a long explanation of why 127.0.0.1 was wrong,
but shouldn't the docs be more consistent? I'm using 127.0.0.0, and ppp
works with my ISP and dynamic assignments.
