They're working on it. This is only needed for SMBus support. So if your
hardware monitor chip can be accessed directly (eg via the ISA bus) and is
supported by lm_sensors, then you can use lm_sensors on a Via board. The
Winbond and (AFAIK) some of the more advanced LM chips support ISA bus
access.
I've been using lm_sensors on my TMC TI5VG+ motherboard, Via MVP3+
chipset, with Winbond monitor chip for months.
