Ok, regarding my keyboard/mouse death, I tried it with a newer ALTServer, 
and it worked just fine.  Warning to all you who own ALTServers with BIOS 
version 0.00.01.BI0 is broken, you can't upgrade the flash bios and things 
break gratuitously under SMP...
