2.3.40 module problems

bttv.o has unresolved symbols
        i2c_bit_del_bus
        i2c_bit_add_bus

ide-probe.o has been renamed to ide-probe-mod.o.  Is there a good reason
for this?  Is there a way of constructing a modules.conf that will work
with both 2.3.1x and 2.3.40?
