PPP: VJ decompression error

Since upgrading my kernel (and pppd) to 2.3.40 I've been getting the
following messages in /var/log/messages.

Feb 10 21:34:23 mulcahy kernel: PPP: VJ decompression error
Feb 10 21:35:48 mulcahy last message repeated 7 times
Feb 10 21:37:03 mulcahy last message repeated 9 times
Feb 10 21:38:08 mulcahy last message repeated 18 times

I've done as much research as I can, and I still haven't found a solution.
Surely someone has come accross the same problem and knows the solution ?

Sorry to add to the traffic through this list, but I've tried all my other
options.
