But it doesn't.
OK, after a search of the 2.3 kernels, I've found that 2.3.13 was the one
that broke it. 2.3.12 works, while 2.3.x where x is chosen from
{13,14,15,19,41,99pre4-5,99pre5,99pre6-2} all suffer instant freeze on any
attempt to use /dev/dsp.
My 2.3.12 and 2.3.13 configurations are identical - I took the working 2.3.12
tree, applied the 2.3.13 patch, made oldconfig and said no to all the new
options except for the PPP compression modules, then made dep clean bzImage
modules modules_install.
