Hi,
This is my first week of using Linux past poking at X every so often so
don't expect any great knowledge from my direction for the moment but this
is my first post so I thought I would say hi ;)
I have just been playing with 2.4.0-test2 on a mandrake 7 box and I think
there may be a problem with the default configuration it gives you. I don't
know if it is just some options I shoved in which broke it but it would seem
that the block device for RAM disks is not included in the default config.
Since the kernel half loads itself into a RAM disk and then continues
running (if I am understanding it correctly that is) from the RAM disk this
is a bit of a problem! The first couple of builds I did spat out the error
message:
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:05
...and stopped loading.
I popped in the RAM disk block device and all went well. I haven't had the
time to read everything relating to this error in the archives so I hope I
am not barking up completely the wrong tree, other people seemed to have
similar errors with IDE devices but this machine is pure SCSI...
I'm probably talking rubbish, in which case sorry for filling up your inbox.
