2.4-test2SMP + XF 4.0 = trouble

I have succesfully compiles and installed the latest
kernel 2.4-test2SMP.. the system boots perfectly but
when I run start x (xfree 4.0) the system turns black,
and doesnt report any errors.. I can still switch to
another console and reboot but it is just black... the
graphics card is a TNT2(M64) and works fine in the
2.2.x kernels..

I just dont know what to do
