Bug on lp.o? on kernel-2.2.15

Hello!
I know nothing about programming so forgive me if this report
sounds stupid. I have this problem. I used to do a

cat myfile.txt > /dev/lp0

without a problem before (before 2.2.xx I think). Now I get

cat: write error: Input/output error

after a while, and the file doesn't completes printing.
It starts printing all right but doesn't finish.
I have a dot-matrix printer (Citizen GSX-190), and I don't use
continuous feed paper, I use individual paper, so when I change
pages it takes a while to put the other page and put the printer
back on-line. Maybe thats the problem. Perhaps adding more timeout?

Again, sorry if this is stupid, I've been tracking the bug down since
quite a long time. First lpr didn't work and I thought lpr was the problem,
and I've spent thousands of pages until I realized that I had a
input/output error when writing directly to the device, so then I
realized it could be a kernel problem. My printer works fine with
Windows 98, so there's no way it is failing for other reason.

Please do not hesitate to ask me to elaborate on my bug report.
I don't know what else could be relevant.

Thanks for your time.
Pablo.
