ok, that basicall rules out )

1) the BP6 MB (as you have a SOYO)
2) rules out OSSlinux
3) rules out VMware
4) rules out X

what I see here is that the numlock works, until I switch to a different
VC. also, the screen doesn't come up; if I telnet into the box, all goes
fine, incuding sync; however, if I shutdown -rf now, it doesn't do a thing.
entries in syslog from my router with A/B adapters shw incoming calls and
all at the same time. /proc/interrupts system timers are not advanced.
sometimes, after a long period of time you see one incremented.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one...
