Ulrich,

Apparently, this was the underlying symptom behind the recent threads on
2.2.x VM modifications.  After being publicly chastised for my posts on
the subject, I'm reassured to find that other lk regulars also failed to
make this connection ;-).  

Nonetheless, Alan's 2.2.17pre9 seems to have fixed it.
