Started the week full of energy.

Work: OK but nothing exciting. Workout: Went to university gym after long time. Felt good after exercising and promised to continue this healthy lifestyle.

News: (from Greece) Tried to read some Greek newspapers after taking off from newspaper

reading during the weekend. It was a mess. Apparently, I had missed lots of news in just 2 days. People were accusing other people (probably randomly) for tapping telephone calls of the prime minister and other ministers. Nobody knew whose fault this was, but the newspaper was full of conspiracy theories. (Conspiracy theories are very popular in Greece:-)) Gave up from reading the main columns and just read the cultural section.

Work: OK but nothing special. Something really exciting should happen at work I thought. Quited this thought after a couple of minutes.

Workout: Promise of healthy lifestyle was broken. After all I can exercise on Wed I thought. So I spent a couple of hours in the evening in Engel coffee shop with another friend acted like studying. At least we had our books wide open on the table. Of course we did not manage to finish reading a single page...but still the books were there. Also books need some going out :-)

News: (personal) Phew...finally I managed to finish a huge project that was going on the last week. I finished watching all seasons of the successful American TV series "Friends". Luckily I had convinced myself that watching all seasons of Friends is part of one's intellectual enrichment :-) . Maybe it is.

Wednesday 08.02.2006

Work: Proved a couple of theorems and had magnificent experimental results on real genomic data...in a strange DREAM I had at night.

In reality work was as usual OK.

Workout: Spent a couple of hours in the late evening playing tennis in in Hertoniemi tennis center. The place was pretty bad. So far I was very impressed by the Tali tennis center. Coming from Greece I could never imagine indoors tennis courts.

News: (from Greece): There is snow on the North of Greece and students don't have to go to school because of this. Indeed there are parts of the world where snow is not the usual thing to see when you exit your house.

The news about the phone taps are still the main thing Greek newspapers are dealing with. New interesting clues have appeared now. For example, there is a software engineer and manager in Vodafone (company related somehow to the story) who committed a suicide just before the scandal was revealed. The reporters wonder: "Was it just a coincidence?" I can imagine that by now everyone in Greece has his own theory about the case and how powerful people are connected to the story! Of course CIA plays major role in all those theories. Not to mention the theories of some Greek people in CS dept :-)

Thursday 09.02.2006

Work: Not even a dream of proving something or doing something really amazing. Just the usual OK.

Workout: Did not even think about working out today. I thought that exercising twice a week should be enough. Next week I will start a more intensive workout schedule.

News: (..) Nothing really extraordinary. Regarding the phones being tapped as expected the relatives of the Vodafone employee who committed a suicide started giving interviews and telling all the "relevant" details that may help the DA. Well this is yet another loud story that newspapers find cheesy and everybody will forget about next week when something more important (like a victory in the Eurovision song contest) will appear.

Friday 10.02.2006:

Work: Went to HIIT/BRU seminar held biweekly. Received my books that I had shipped from the US. So nice that they finally came. Started browsing through them. Started thinking of how many things I don't know.

Worked for a while to make these thoughts go away....

Workout: forget about working out. It is Friday.

News (Fun): Watched the "Walk the Line" movie in Kinopalatsi. So going to movies and eating gummy bears is probably the only Finnish habit I picked up. Movie was tolerable. BTW I am really looking forward to watch so many great movies showed all over the world except Finland. I don't really understand why it takes so long for the movies to come in Helsinki!
