Another point to note here is that when talking about thoughts inducing a positive or negative mood, we need a baseline. In the research cited, this is typically a rather normal, average mood. However, if the baseline had absolutely no wandering thoughts, as might be considered ideal in some particular meditation traditions, it could be that even positively valenced wandering thoughts actually have a negative effect on the mood.
