Hello world!  I'm an assistant professor at Diego Portales University in Santiago, Chile, where I teach and study data compression and data structures.  Most of my papers are available from DBLP or Google Scholar.

I have a BSc in Cognitive Science from Queen's University, Canada; an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, supervised by Faith Ellen; and a Dr. rer. nat. in Bioinformatics from Bielefeld University, Germany, supervised by Ferdinando Cicalese and Jens Stoye.  After my MSc I spent a year at the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa and two years at the University of Eastern Piedmont, supervised at both by Giovanni Manzini.  After my doctorate I spent a year working with Gonzalo Navarro at the University of Chile; two years working with Jorma Tarhio at Aalto University, Finland; and three years working with Veli Mäkinen at the University of Helsinki.  While affiliated with the University of Helsinki I spent a winter at the University of A Coruña, Spain, hosted by Nieves Brisaboa.

I serve fairly often on the program or organizing committees of the conferences most relevant to my research: CPM '11, '12, '13 and '15; DCC '14, '15, '16 and '17; and SPIRE '15, '16 and '17.  I also have been or will be on the PCs of BREW '16, CCP '11, ISMB '16, IWOCA '16 and WADS '17.  Tatiana Starikovskaya and I co-chaired the Workshop on Compression, Text and Algorithms (WCTA '15) in London; Susana Ladra and I co-chaired a StringMasters '16 in A Coruña; Gonzalo and I co-chaired a special session of DCC '16 on compressed data structures and now we're co-editing a special issue of Algorithmica and I'm editing a special issue of the Journal of Discrete Algorithms; and I chaired (remotely, and with a lot of local assistance!) the BIRDS '16 summer school in Helsinki on bioinformatics data structures.
